Visit to Liberty Ship

Photos from my visit of the Jeremiah O'Brien (ironically named after an early US naval hero who kicked British derriere in an earlier war).

The submarine below is the USS Pampanito, also on display.

The 5th photo down shows the tops of the three engine cylinders. The high pressure steam (2000 psi) first passed through the small-bore cylinder, then through the middle size cylinder, and finally through the largeest cylinder. The increasing bore diameters compensated for the decreasing steam pressure, ensuring equal power from each cylinder.
