This blog began in late 2006 with the planning and preparation for a circumnavigation of the world in my 39-foot sail boat Pachuca. It then covered a successful 5-year circumnavigation that ended in April 2013. The blog now covers life with Pachuca back home in Australia.

Iridium Telephone
Arnold arrived in Perth on schedule last Wednesday 23 April and brought with him the Iridium satellite telephone.
This is a photo of the satellite telephone connected to Arnold's laptop for internet access.
We now have:
- SMS messaging both incoming and outgoing (160-character limit, including address, etc)
- Voice mail
- Internet access (full functionality but slow)
At this point it looks like we will reply primarily on SMS messaging.

Replacement Regulator
I received the replacement regulator for the Rutland wind generator last week and installed it a few days ago. The attached photo shows the new setup. The top 3 components, the ammeter, Arrid regulator, and manual switch are dedicated to the two solar panels. The Marlec HRDX regulator at the bottom is dedicated to the Rutland 913 wind generator. Both system are now working well.
We are also putting together a "grab bag" which so far contains a 121 MHz EPIRB (to be replaced with a 406 MHz EPIRB soon), a modest first aid kit, and a signaling mirror.
