Trimming down the standard airvane by about 2" will have no adverse effect. Just remove the tape that's on the airvane edge, cut it with a jigsaw, and replace the tape - we use standard 3M electrical tape; it lasts forever. Note how the original tape is fastened at the bottom and duplicate it.
All the photos you sent show a very good installation. Don't worry about a few inches of height difference; go out & sail!
