This blog began in late 2006 with the planning and preparation for a circumnavigation of the world in my 39-foot sail boat Pachuca. It then covered a successful 5-year circumnavigation that ended in April 2013. The blog now covers life with Pachuca back home in Australia.

Filler Panels In

Wally came this morning with his jig saw and we got to work. Although I say "we", Wally did the actual work and I played a support role while learning as much as I could take in. We marked out the two pieces of ply as planned and Wally cut them. One of the pieces was nearly perfect. With a bit of tweaking the second piece was also nearly perfect. By that I mean that both pieces fit in snugly with the help of a few taps, with barely 1 mm gap at any place.

Wally then had me put masking tape around the perimeters of the openings so that the epoxy would not stick to the bulkheads, while he did a similar job on the panels to be fitted in. He then screwed two braces on each panel to facilitate the fitting, then mixed some epoxy and coated the inner sides and edges of the filler panels. Then he thickened the resin with no. 404 adhesive filler and we fitted the panels with filler between the two panels and along the edges.

The accompanying photos are of the inside and outside panels in place while I wait for the epoxy to cure. The other is of Wally at work with the jig saw.
