This blog began in late 2006 with the planning and preparation for a circumnavigation of the world in my 39-foot sail boat Pachuca. It then covered a successful 5-year circumnavigation that ended in April 2013. The blog now covers life with Pachuca back home in Australia.

Water Maker Has Arrived
I picked up the "Waterlog 200" water maker yesterday. Unfortunately, it appears that they did not include the "long range cruising spares" kit. I have notified the company and am awaiting their response. When I return from Fremantle next week I'll dedicate several very focussed hours to becoming very familiar with the use and maintenance of the unit. Attached is a photograph of the unit. The tape measure is open to exactly one meter. The little white discs constitute, I believe, the hygiene kit.

Sorry Bob....more detail need for non-sailors - what is a "Waterlog 200" water maker and those white things in packets?? No wonder you will need to devote time to study this strange apparatus!!
Hi, Chris,
A watermaker is a device that extracts fresh water out of sea water. The Waterlog 200 is a unique water maker in that it gets its power from an impeller (i.e. propeller) that turns as it is towed by the boat. The power is used to force the sea water through a stainless steel membrane that filters out salt and many impurities including, if I understood it correctly, virus and bacteria. The process is known as "reverse osmosis".
The company has a good web site. See www.waterloginternational.com
The white packets contain granules that I think have to do with the "hygiene" system - a way of periodically cleaning/sterilizing the filter and innards, perhaps. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to study the documentation yet.
Thanks for sharing valuable information
