This is a photo that Arnold took of our chart plotter screen. To the left is Spencer Gulf and to the right is the Gulf of St Vincent with the Yorke Peninsula in between. Pachuca is in Port Lincoln, on the western side of Spencer Gulf where the black boat icon is shown. Adelaide is on the eastern side of the Gulf of St Vincent where the cross-hair cursor is shown. We sailed to the east on the first day, then for the next two days tracked to the SW through a combination of sailing and heaving to. Because of the strong wind, high seas, and short sails our tacking angle was about a dismal 140 degrees. At the extreme SW tip of our track we evaluated the poor wind prediction for the next few days and our probability of being beyond the reach of Port Lincoln if we spent one more day out, so we elected to return.
This blog began in late 2006 with the planning and preparation for a circumnavigation of the world in my 39-foot sail boat Pachuca. It then covered a successful 5-year circumnavigation that ended in April 2013. The blog now covers life with Pachuca back home in Australia.

good luck,body!
Bob, Mario and I think the North, South nature of your attempt to leave Port Lincoln is a result of many trips off the WA coast restricted to a North/South direction. :-)
