This blog began in late 2006 with the planning and preparation for a circumnavigation of the world in my 39-foot sail boat Pachuca. It then covered a successful 5-year circumnavigation that ended in April 2013. The blog now covers life with Pachuca back home in Australia.

Visit from Cousin Elsa

Our cousin Elsa flew in from Houston yesterday morning as planned. Arnold and I walked to her hotel then walked back the mile or so to the marina talking about all sorts of things. There was much catching up to do because I had met Elsa only once and Arnold had seen her twice, maybe three times, although there had been the occasional telephone conversation.

We had lunch here at the SDYC where the food was great but the conversation was even better, resulting in a long and slow dining experience.

We then visited the Pachuca for several hours where we gave Elsa a mini tour of the boat, answered her boating questions, then settled down for more chat over red wine about our experiences and our extended family, which Arnold and I know too little about.

As dusk was approaching we found what turned out to be a pretty good restaurant with a strong nautical theme, a good crowd, and some surprisingly good live entertainment.

We then set out for the hotel under a light sprinkle of rain. Fortunately we were all only slightly damp when we said our good nights at the hotel. However, Arnold and I did not fare as well on the return walk under the increasing rain. It appears that most of our clothes dried overnight thanks to our fan heater. But the rain was unimportant. We all had a great day.

Today we expect San Diego cousin Annie to join us, hopefully with her husband Joe and son Matthew. Unfortunately it is a rainy and gusty so cars, taxi cabs, and indoor socializing will be the order of the day.

The photos are of Arnold explaining various aspects of the boat to Elsa.
