This blog began in late 2006 with the planning and preparation for a circumnavigation of the world in my 39-foot sail boat Pachuca. It then covered a successful 5-year circumnavigation that ended in April 2013. The blog now covers life with Pachuca back home in Australia.

Radar In Close Quarters

In San Evaristo Arnold used the radar set to watch an anchor-prone boat just upwind of us. If you enlarge the photo (with a click of the mouse) you will see that the range rings are only 188 ft apart. The purple blobs represent boats at anchor around us. The offending boat is to the left, with the cursor at its leading edge indicating that it is 225 ft away. I watched that screen until past midnight ready to act if the boat penetrated the first range ring.
