This blog began in late 2006 with the planning and preparation for a circumnavigation of the world in my 39-foot sail boat Pachuca. It then covered a successful 5-year circumnavigation that ended in April 2013. The blog now covers life with Pachuca back home in Australia.

NW Cruise - Days 10, 11

Yesterday we visited Customs and got our clearance paper. There to greet us was Mr. Barnes, the same Customs agent who helped us sort our cruising permit issue at Friday Harbor.

We plan to depart within the hour for Bedwell Harbor to make our entry into Canada. It will be a short trip of about 10 nm as the crow flies. The passage will take us back through Haro Strait, where we will have a chance to see some Orca whales.

Enclosed are some photos of Roche Harbor.

The top photo is another example of life on the runway. The next one down shows the jetty, which contains a cafe, post office, landromat, grocery store, gift shop, coffee/ice cream shop, and showers.

The lower two photos can be joined together to form a panoramic picture of Roche Harbor. The photo at the bottom shows the island which defines the two entrances to the harbor.

Roche Harbor, by the way, was discovered by the Spanish explorer Lopez de Haro in 1787. He named the San Juan Islands and in return had places named after him including, probably, Lopez Island.
