This blog began in late 2006 with the planning and preparation for a circumnavigation of the world in my 39-foot sail boat Pachuca. It then covered a successful 5-year circumnavigation that ended in April 2013. The blog now covers life with Pachuca back home in Australia.

Visit to Point Hudson Marina

Point Hudson Marina is adjacent downtown Port Townsend. It will be cordoned off and be the center of the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival (Sept 11-13).

All of the frame buildings at Pt Hudson have the US Coast Guard look and feel. Indeed, the sail loft on the town side of the marina was once a Coast Guard armory. So marina and its surrounds represent what must have been a major US Coast Guard base.

If you enlarge the photo of the house shown in the bottom photo you will see that it was the Commander's beach house. Presumeably he went back to the comforts of Seattle during for the winter months. Great duty, huh?

The photo of Capt Bob trimming the sails of the fully wooden boat shows the trailer/RV park along the beach front.
